In this series of work, I reveal my awareness of stereotypical myths by confronting them with my own mythology, replacing the usual archetypal, patriarchal icons with divine female protagonists. I refuse to be caught in myths I do not accept.
Mythology often presents cosmology and universal issues that shape every human life. Science and religion, for all their validity, give us cosmology that is, a description of how the universe came to be and how it is governed. The myths found in my work relate stories of creation and being, taking on spiritual and sacred connotations. They are a collection of my own stories set in time and place outside history, describing in fictional form the fundamental truths of nature and human life. My own mythologies question and reject prevailing myths. Each of us has our special demons, divinities, our own world landscapes, our struggles. If we do not create a system of our own, we will be enslaved by another's.
The images appropriated from the mass media are used for a different purpose here; these images, extracted from their original context, are reassembled in innovative and provocative combinations, transforming fantasy objects of male desire into empowered female beings of mythical proportions.

The exhibition was a celebration of intrinsic and authentic beauty.
In myths only the pure of heart can discern the truth. Perhaps we are genuinely human when we come to believe that beauty is not so much in the eye as in the heart of the beholder.

The mythology genre is an imaginal practice. Fantastic imagery, impossible acts, unreal settings take us away from the realistic to the invisible and eternal themes that are nonetheless a part of life. Mythology stimulates our imagination. It speaks to our mind, heart and soul where meaning and values are truly formed. Mythology, therefore, allows us to see more clearly as it enables us to know our own thoughts and feelings.

The myths used in these collages, which focused on themes of creation and the self, found further expression in my workshops.
